Saint-Petersburg Philarmonic Brass-Quintet
"Russian Brass"

Igor Sharapov,  trumpet

Igor was born in 1961 in the family of a highly professional trumpeter and master Yury Sharapov. In 1976 he graduated from his father’s masterclass in the M.P.Mussorgsky college of music (N.Miagchenko’s masterclass), and joined the Leningrad State Conservatory of Music, professor Yu. Bolsheianov masterclass. He was a recipient of a special prize at All-Union Competition of brass performers (Tallinn, 1980). In 1986 he became a soloist, first trumpet in the Kirovsky (Mariinsky) Theater of Opera and Ballet. At the All-Union Competition in 1988 he became a laureate of the first premium and since 1989 he is a solo trumpet-player of the Symphonic Orchestra of the St.Petersburg State Philharmonic. In 1997 he became a leader of Russian Philharmonic Brass Quintet «Russian Brass».


Alexey Belyaev, trumpet 

Alexei was born in 1974 in the family of musicians and it was a strong incentive for his evolution. Being a student of the Rimsky-Korsakov music school (Yu.Sharapov masterclass) Alexei was at the same time a solo performer of the trumpets of symphonic orchestra «Klassika». Graduated from the school he entered the St.Petersburg State Conservatory, professor V.S.Margolin masterclass. And in the meantime he was a solo performer of the trumpets of symphonic orchestra of the State Academic Capella. In 1992 he became a laureate of All-Union Competition of brass performers. Since 1996 he is an artist of the orchestra of a Honoured Collective of Russia the St.Petersburg D.D.Shostakovich Philharmonic. Since 1997 he is a member of Russian Philharmonic Brass Quintet «Russian Brass».


Alexey Repnikov,  trombone

Alexei was born in 1973. In 1983 he entered secondary school of music attached to Leningrad State Conservatory, G.I.Strautman masterclass. In 1988 at the All-Union Competition of children wind orchestras (Moscow) he was granted with a Diploma as a soloist. In 1991 he became a student of the St.Petersburg State Conservatory (B.P.Vinogradov masterclass). In 1996 he joined masterclass of professor V.V.Sumerkin. In the same year he joined the Orchestra of the Mariinski Theater of Opera and Ballet (chief conductor V.Gergiev). Since 1997 he is a member of Russian Philharmonic Brass Quintet «Russian Brass».


Stanislav Tses,  horn

Stanislav was born in 1961. He studied at the secondary music school attached to the Leningrad State Conservatory, professor V.M.Buyanovsky masterclass. In 1979 he entered the Leningrad State Conservatory (professor V.M.Buyanovsky masterclass). In the same time he joined a Honoured Collective of Russia, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Leningrad State Conservatory. At the present time he is a soloist of French horn group of Honoured Collective of Russia, the Symphonic Orchestra of the St.Petersburg Philharmonic and a laureate of International Competition. He is also a master of St.Petersburg State Conservatory. Since 1997 he is a member and arranger of Russian Philharmonic Brass Quintet «Russian Brass».


Valentin Avvakumov,  tuba
Valentin was born in 1959.
Upon graduation from music boarding school No. 38, teacher M.A.Koshelev, in 1974 he entered N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov college, masterclass of V.V.Baykov.
Since 1978 till 1983 he studied at the Leningrad Conservatory of Music, masterclass of V.V.Galusin.
His regalia as a soloist are:
in 1980 a certificate of honour at the All-Union Competition;
in 1983 a second prize-winner at the All-Union Competition;
in 1984 a third prize-winner at the All-Union Competition; a diploma-winner at International Competition in Germany.
Valentin is an excellent member of an ensemble and this is proven by his awards:
Grand-Prix at the All-Union Competition 1988;
prize-winner at International Competition in Finland;
second prize-winner at Philip Jones Competition in Hungary;
Grand-Prix at International Competition in France (Norbone) where the musicians from Canadian Brass were among the jury members.
This proves Valentin to be bright representative of brass and explains his popularity among the leading groups of St.Petersburg.
Since 1992 he is a soloist of the Mariinski Theater Orchestra.
Since 1997 he is a member of Russian Philharmonic Brass Quintet .
